The CEO of Phethahatso

Moeketsi Mahasa — The CEO of Phethahatso

Moeketsi is the Chief Executive Officer of Phethahatso Community Development. As a trained Rural Development specialist and academically a double major in Agriculture and rural sociology, Moeketsi has had the opportunity to work as the identifier of the anatomy and the physiology of rural economies of Swaziland, Canada, Lesotho and South Africa. With sufficient resources accessible to him, His eyes don’t struggle to see what mix of resources is needed to formulate a winning rural development strategy. He has used his agricultural and rural sociology skills to make a contribution to the rural communities of Lesotho. He has had the opportunity to train the trainers of rural development in Lesotho while he was a lecturer and Head of the department of Socioeconomic and quantitative studies at the now Faculty of Agriculture University of Lesotho pre 1994 elections. He has had a similar opportunity to train the farm workers of Swaziland in his intensive training farm management course in Swaziland. He has worked with the Edmonton potato growers in Canada. He did his practical tour with the ploughshare farmers’ movement in Alberta Canada. He has coordinated the synergies between rural training centres and Lesotho Agricultural College.  He formed and guided several farmers associations in Clocolan, Marquard and Welkom in the Free State in the new South Africa. He continues to do rural development in Gauteng around Sebokeng, Evaton West, Ruster Vaal and Meyerton. He established over One Hundred community food gardens in the Vaal area. In these Vaal areas, he created his own sustainable green economy model which can easily be adopted by the government to start a new crop of emerging South African Farmers.

As a realtor, Moeketsi is familiar with the land alienation processes of South Africa. He has had to deal with land transfer processes of both the farms and the properties when he ran Sirius Properties Franchise in the Vaal. He is familiar with the after sale farm worker eviction problems in South Africa. Moeketsi is fully aware of the dilemma confronting the current rural development department of South Africa particularly when it comes to Land restitution and Land redistribution. Unfortunately He has no role to play in that.
